Healing Hands for Thumper

Updated: Aug 9, 2021

Thumper is a rare golden Guernsey Goat, he is one of the most charismatic members of the Baah-Land family for sure! The Golden Guernsey Goat is on the Rare Breed Survival Trust's watchlist with only an estimated 500 – 1000 breeding females in the UK.

Thumper has become quite despondent of late, we tried to integrate him with the rest of the goat brood but it has been a challenge as all he wants to do is mount all the lady goats!...he is notorious for being very cheeky and lets say...cooughhhhh ingenious when it comes to having his way with the females!

As Thumper hasn't been getting his way he has been sulking and refusing to come out of his house, as a result he has spent too much time lay on his bent legs so when we have been trying to exercise him he has ended up off his legs and unable to walk. Following a vet visit we were referred for him to have physio.

We were not prepared to give up on Thumper, especially with the breed in such decline! We sought out Rachel Cartwright from 4 Point Physio, her tenacity and what is clear to be a deep and genuine care for Thumpers plight has seen her devise a course of exercises to get Thumper standing proud again! He is making great progress and we are deeply grateful for Rachel's support and care. It's not every day you hear of a goat having physio therapy but Rachel has proven she can turn her healing hands to any species.
